ABOUT THE RECIPE:

I like to dress up hot, steamed broccoli with the citrusy notes of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Simple, light, and delicious!

Makes 4 servings

INGREDIENTS:

1 medium head broccoli, cut into florets

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
(from 1/2 medium lemon)
1⁄4 teaspoon tamari

1⁄4 teaspoon all-purpose seasoning or Italian seasoning blend
⅛ teaspoon garlic powder, plus more as needed

Salt, to taste

Freshly ground pepper, to taste
½ sweet red or orange bell pepper, seeded and diced, for garnish (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Fit a steamer basket into a medium sauce pan with a tight-fitting lid. Add 2 inches of cold water, then add the broccoli. Cover and bring to a boil. Steam for 8 to 10 minutes, until crisp- tender. Transfer to a medium bowl.

Put the olive oil, lemon juice, tamari, and garlic powder in a small bowl and whisk to combine. Pour the sauce over the broccoli and toss until the broccoli is evenly coated.

Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Garnish with optional bell pepper if desired. Serve immediately.
