This quick and creamy staple has been kid and husband tested and approved. It packs a lot of nutrition in the most flavor-filled bowl of oatmeal ever, and it just might reignite your family’s joy in breakfast.

Makes 4 servings

INGREDIENTS:

3¾ to 4 cups water
2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
3 tablespoons raisins, dried cherries, or sweetened dried cranberries, or a combination
1⁄8 teaspoon salt (optional)
1 to 2 tablespoons brown sugar, maple sugar, or maple syrup, plus more for serving
Dairy-free milk (for serving, optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Put the water, oats, raisins, and salt in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Decrease the heat to medium-low, cover and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has been absorbed and the mixture is creamy.

Remove from the heat and sprinkle the brown sugar or maple syrup over the top. Cover and let sit for about 5 to 10 minutes before serving. Serve with dairy-free milk and more sweetener if desired.
